PICKS:
Sylvan Lake State Park in Eagle, CO
Our arrival at the Sylvan Lake campground confirmed that we had left the desert far behind. Lushly green, with a crystal clear mountain lake, the campground was thoroughly enjoyable (despite a few mishaps with the coin metered showers: soapy hands + feeding quarters into a machine = a long delay in getting the shower restarted).
I-70 to Denver (via Vail)
The drive into Denver from the east is a veritable roller coaster over mountain peaks and through passes. It was a beautiful introduction to Colorado.
