Although your time in Santa Fe area was short, I think you hit the high spots. Maybe it was because we were there right around Labor Day when the place was crowded with tourists and the inevitable traps that seem to attract them, but I found Santa Fe for the most part to be overrun with cliches of Southwest “art” and “jewelry,” most of which looked suspiciously like East Indian imports. The day we spent driving the High Road to Taos and stopping at little curiosities like Chimayo was my favorite day in New Mexico, and our dinner at Atomic Grill was much more pleasant with a lot smaller price tag and a lot less snippy waitstaff attitude then our other dining experiences in Santa Fe. The only thing I think you really missed out on was the Georgia O’Keefe Museum, but another time…

I had the opportunity to visit Joshua Tree while tagging along for a conference that my girlfriend had in Palm Springs. I drove up every morning for a few days and explored the park. It’s just the right size for day trips whereas parks like Yosemite or Yellowstone aren’t.

I liked the park a lot and despite it being dry, I saw wildlife. The most common being some ground squirrels that liked to scurry among the rocks. I also saw a hawk feasting on a meal by the side of the road. Very cool place!

It was almost impossible not to have a run in with the jumping chollas! If your shoe brushes up against a piece strewn on the ground, you have an instant and permanent decoration. I think I have thorns in the bottom of my shoes that will never come out. It was really something!

Well, they do have an extensive recirculating stream system with a family of ducks that returns every year to give birth to the next generation of ducklings….so, yeah, maybe Dreamworks does need a water rights attorney.

I can’t tell if you liked the Getty Center or not. Although I am not personally a huge LA fan, I did love the gardens at the Getty Center when I was there years ago. In fact, I think it was my favorite part of LA. Oh, and is Dreamworks looking for a water rights attorney? I want to work there!!
